An enchanting riad in the heart of Marrakech
I’ve fallen in love (yet again!) with this amazing riad – Riad Farnatchi - in Marrakech… When I move to a bigger house, this is definitely the style that I want to adopt! Whilst it has a distinct Arabian feel, it is elegant and grand, yet understated and comfortable and oh so tranquil!!! It immediately transported me to a different era…
I think the review by Mr&MrsSmith summarises this place perfectly “the essence of modern style in ancient surroundings”. The combination of old and modern is just amazing and the attention to detail incredible… Enjoy!
Moroccan architecture is all about arches, mosaic patterns and lanterns, so this room definitely fits the bill! I love the black and white tiled floor and the ornate gold lantern hanging from the ceiling.
Traditional items like the gold carved headboard on the bed, the gorgeous end sofa and the Persian rugs have been combined successfully with modern touches like the glossy black coffee table and vase… Not too sure about the burgundy curtains - would have thought gold ones like in the other rooms would have looked better, but I’m just nit-picking, the room is gorgeous all the same!!

If you look closely, you’ll realise that the headboard is basically a carving of Arabic writing (zoomed in below)!!! How clever and original is that?
What a great bathroom! I don’t get sunken baths (they just remind me of graves…), but everything else is perfect - the marble sinks, the oversized mirror, the spa- style tiles, the beautiful ceiling lantern… Admittedly, the modern towel rails look a bit out of place, but once nice fluffy towels are hanged on them, they’ll hardly be visible…
I love the combination of black, white and gold here. In fact, I love everything about this room! The ornate mirror and sofa with gold- painted legs are to die for as well as the silk gold curtains. Again, the arch feature adds interest and depth to the room, whilst a few lanterns here and there add that all- impotant final touch – just a bit disappointed that the curtains aren’t tied back with the traditional silk curtain ties and tassels that the Moroccans are famed for…
