Banksy’s a little like the Stig from Top Gear in terms of secret hidden identity. Avoiding the limelight suggests he would rather it was his work which was famous, not himself. The secrecy also adds an air of mystery and intrigue, resulting in ongoing interest from the public. But how does he create such masterpieces without anyone seeing?! It’s certainly all very hush hush. Whoever he is, he is very talented and creates the most amazing imagery. If that isn’t art, I don’t know what is… it’s certainly not mindless vandalism.
The Bristol Museum on Queens Road is holding an exhibition of his work from June 13th up until August 31st (Bristol is thought to be his hometown, where he first began creating his graffiti artwork ). This is an absolute must-see, truely thought provoking and inspiring. I’m not sure where I heard this, (possibly on TV) but apparantly only one member of staff knew about and agreed to the setting-up and holding of the exhibition, without being allowed to consult anyone else! She thought the success of the show would counteract her ‘dishonesty’. She’s now safe in the knowledge that she made the right decision to give the go-ahead.
If only I lived closer, I’d be there faster than the time it would take for you to spray paint my name!
