An edible snow globe?!

November 12th, 2009

It’s now less than seven weeks until Christmas everyone, can you believe it?  So in the run up to the most magical time of the year, we’ll be posting some Christmas food and recipe ideas for you to try.

If you’re like me and you find traditional Christmas puddings a little stodgy and heavy after a rich main meal, why not try Marks and Spencer’s Snow Storm dessert as a lighter alternative?

Inspired by snow globes (we’d never have guessed!!), the vanilla jelly dome comes sprinkled with coconut flakes on a base of white chocolate and cranberry pannacotta.

I’ve not tried this yet (let me know if you do) but even if it isn’t to your taste, it’ll certainly look brilliant on the table!!

I am desperately trying to get hold of one of these M&S Snowstorm desserts but having a lot of difficulty – can you help?

I should think it’s easy enough to make one. Make clear jelly with gelatine and vanilla extract in a stainless steel or plastic bowl with dessicated coconut while it’s still liquid but not so set that the coconut sinks. Leave that to set then put a layer of cranberries/raspberies/bluberries on the jelly and finish with a layer of panacotta. Turn out onto a glass plate or cake stand. I’m going to try it this weekend.

Hi Nikki, have you tried your local store? maybe they just have them in the larger branches? Viv makes it sound really easy though so I think I might also give it a go!!

I’ve just found a Gordon Ramsey white chocolate & raspberry recipe online (from the F Word book) or http://www.channel4.com/food/recipes/occasions/dinner-parties/come-dine-with-me/white-chocolate-pannacotta-with-a-raspberry-coulis-recipe_p_1.html . I also found a clear jelly recipe that would work except this one is made with elderflower cordial and has strawberries floating around in it http://www.telegraph.co.uk/foodanddrink/recipes/3345689/Food-Jelly-recipes.html. I’m determined to make this work!

Thank you for the excellent article. Best thing I read all day. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.

I too coveted this dessert – but after producing with a flourish on Christmas evening – it caused the largest gasps followed by titters and then became the talking point of the season, how could something so tantalisingly beautiful have absolutely no flavour – heartbreaking, almost shed a tear as the largely untouched dome slid into the composting…

perhaps it’s best to just admire it rather than eat it!

I pass-up typically the “sharing for that environment,In because I do believe until this blog needs to know everyone in the globe. I have not found yet very well conducted web-site such as this!
