Picture perfect
When asked what you’d rescue from a burning house, most people would say their photographs. Being a treasured reminder of the good times in life, photographs are one of the most important things we own. So why not display your favourites on the wall?

Play around with different frame sizes and colours and create a feature wall for all of your favourite snaps and artwork. Try different photo finishes, such as sepia and black and white to vary the look.

I love how a polaroid-sized picture has been mounted with a large border- it really makes it stand out, giving the image a sense of importance.

These illustrations would look fantastic in my office- I may put some of my own up for inspiration.

For something a little different, there’s no rule to say pictures must hang on the wall. Try resting the frames on shelving for a contemporary look.

Have you created something similar in your home? Send-in some photographs and we’ll feature you on the blog!

At home with… Sarah from Monaco Interiors
One of our lovely blogging friends, Sarah over at Monaco Interiors has kindly allowed us to have a little peek into her home. Sarah lives over in the US in beautiful New England… I just love it over there (in fact do you fancy a permanent house swap?!) Being an interior designer, Sarah certainly knows a few things about home decor. See how the addition of a bright cushion can instantly ‘lift’ a room and how your favourite artwork can make your home a more personal place to be…

“I just got some new pillows for my sofa and new chairs in my living room. I like to read on the sofa next to my orange lamps or recline on my new navy wool wing chairs!”

“ My bedroom is where I like to lay in on Sundays to read and have some tea “

“Finally, the place I spend the MOST time is my little office area – or as I call it ‘Blog Command Central’ – this is where you can find me when I’m not working. I have my favorite art around me – a map of the world, Audrey Hepburn poster and Anne Harwell prints. I recently covered my ugly desk with a beautiful fabric from Israel I have had for years, and wanted to incorporate in my home. “

I love the relaxed, kind of laid-back feel of her home and that she’s put a stamp on it and made it her own. It’s so full of personality and character don’t you think?

It really gets you thinking…
I’ve been feeling quite philosophical these last few days. As we make those big decisions in our lives which affect family, relationships and careers, it can feel unnerving that we may not be doing the right thing. All I know is that happiness is the most important thing and should always be put first.

Recently awarded Best UK Design Blog 2010, We Heart and also one of my favourite blogs, Hope Chella, have posted some amazing artwork with thought-provoking imagery and text. So simple, yet each one would make fantastic contemporary piece of artwork for your home.

The image above is currently saved as my desktop wallpaper to remind me that I can do anything I put my mind to. However as I strive to develop my career, I really am nothing without family and friends around me.

Rob Ryan Rocks!
I’m loving the delightfully intricate work by London-based artist, Rob Ryan. He uses a scalpel to produce highly decorative works of art, creating a paper cutting and printing from the stencil. The results are pretty, thought-provoking and inspiring. I can only imagine the blisters Rob must end up with!!

Below: Rob teams up with cool jewellery label Tatty Devine…

Gorgeous colour at Papaya Art
How stunning are these colours? The pink is so prominent against the black and white wallpaper. This image is from Papaya Art, a cute website full of interesting wall art and stationary to brighten-up your home!
The colours and patterns used are so appealing and different from anything you’d find on the high-street I’m sure. Read more about Papaya here.
above: start with a neutral shade of sofa and build strong colour around it using cushions and wall art. Note how the yellow shades in the cushion compliment those in the wall hangings.
