A little bit of colour goes a long way

In my student days I had my fair share of grotty bathrooms- small, dated and uninspiring to say the least!  Whilst bathrooms are meant to be a sanctuary of relaxation, even a small injection of colour can go a long way to helping you to relax.  Add colourful towels, bright wallpaper, fresh flowers and fun bathroom accessories for a quick pick-me-up.  No matter how small and plain a bathroom looks- making the smallest of changes can really lift your mood.

I go through phases of liking things and at the moment I have a particular interest in homemade bathing products.  They smell divine!  Good companies seem few and far between but I found EcoCentric, a one-stop shop for gorgeous eco homewares.  I’m absolutely loving the look of their organic cosmetics and I’m sure you will too.  The gift sets would make an extra special present for a friend (erm, or yourself!!)…

Pamper yourself

Taking a long, relaxing bath or an invigorating shower is one of life’s daily little pleasures.  It’s a time for self indulgence and pampering.  We all lead busy lives these days, so make the most of the time you have and turn your bathroom into a mini paradise!

Vibrant yellow against soft grey works really well

I love the contrast in colour seen when these stencilled cabinets are opened

This small table is much better than a shelf full of unsightly cluttered products!

Set the mood with soft lighting.  Inject strong colour with a bright rug or towel bundle

How fun is this bathroom, designed by half-Egyptian, half-British designer Karim Rashid?!!  It’s light years away from my preferred girly vintage style but still, I absolutely love it!

The aethetically pleasing minimal rounded shapes will undoubtedly have the whole family queing to use the bathroom!  My only bugbear is with the finish of the base of the sink and bath; I can’t help feeling that this spoils the flow of the shape and gives the room a bit of a cheap, plastic look.  I would like to see the base just disappearing into the flooring as one piece.  Then again perhaps I’m just picky!

Other colour combinations are available but I have a personal preference for the pink.  Not sure the boyfriend would agree, though…

Bathroom Bliss

This has got to be one of the most gorgeous bathrooms I’ve ever seen, photographed by Swedish interior stylist Eva Lyndh.  I can imagine spending hours in here soaking in the bath surrounded by delicate, floating petals and then dusting myself with a powder puff!  How lovely is the sweet candy colour pallet?

If you were to strip the bathroom of the pretty girly accessories, you will see that the actual ’shell’ is rather neutral.  A ‘blank canvas’ as I like to call it, is perhaps the best way to decorate a room, as you can then accessorize to your heart’s content to suit your personal style.  Then if you come to sell in the future,  a potential buyer will easily be able to envisage living there.

I love the gold fixtures and fittings, the rug, the vintage-style products with the pretty packaging… everything!!
