Rainbow Brights

This is possibly the most colourful home I’ve ever seen!  The style is retro meets pop art, or “my bedroom at age 8 meets the Home Depot paint centre,” says Amy of her one bedroom Massachusetts home.  The bright colours really work well together, which is no coincidence- Amy had worked hard to ensure the colours compliment each other and that every home accessory and piece of furniture has its own special place.

Amy has been collecting Pez packets for years and has a rather impressive collection.  Strange… but nice to look at!  I like how the packets have been placed in order of tone… the shadows make a pretty pattern, too.

This iron outdoor table is such a lovely colour, especially combined with the orange and yellow accessories.

I do like the interior decor as a whole, however I think I would’ve appreciated it more during my carefree University years rather than now, when I like to think of myself as being a little more sophisticated!

Colour me pretty

If ever there was a perfect example of how to add striking accents of colour to a home, this would be it.  The owner of this beautiful Scandinavian home has begun with a white base (what I like to call a blank canvas) and added colourful home accessories throughout.

The bright white walls and flooring give the illusion of space, really ‘opening-up’ an area by reflecting the light.  The stripey rug in the hallway (above) adds depth.

Everything looks really fresh doesn’t it?  The colourful home accessories are what gives this home its personality.

It may seem daunting at first but once you’ve injected a little colour into your home you’ll be pleased you did.  Be it a feature wall, a piece of furniture or simply a throw- a burst of colour can really lift the mood, and yours!

Texan Heaven

My friend jetted off to Texas yesterday and I am so jealous!  They have family over there, so are going to visit.  If you’re not lucky enough to have relatives you can stay with, I’ve found this fabulous hotel!  I love the mix of old and new and the fun American retro vibe…

Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin, Texas

Owner Liz Lambert handpicked every detail of this14-room revamped Vicorian mansion, an inspired union of old-world decadence and rock ‘n’ roll cool.  It’s refreshing to hear of designers carefully selecting each piece, rather than handing it all over to the decision of some corporate design company (boring!).

Music and literature memorabilia of the ’60s and ’70s adds detail.  I love these pictures on the wall, above, but not too keen on the US flag being used as a curtain!

Condé Nast Traveller considered this to be one of the  most noteworthy hotels in the world in 2009.  Not bad!  Click here to book.

Room with a view please!

This stunning appartment located in New York’s upper East side is not your standard urban city dwelling.

Designed by  Drake Design Asscoiates, the interior has a base colour of soft blue, with accent colours of vivid hot pink and orange.  The result is homely, comfortable and fresh, steering clear of the usual greys and blacks.

Note how the seating is a mixture of styles, yet each piece is united by colour.

My dream view, isn’t it just stunning?!  One day I’ll have a view like this.  And check out that lush table too!

Set room boundaries by painting the wall a different colour- particularly effective if your home is open plan.
