Picture perfect

When asked what you’d rescue from a burning house, most people would say their photographs.  Being a treasured reminder of the good times in life, photographs are one of the most important things we own.  So why not display your favourites on the wall?

Play around with different frame sizes and colours and create a feature wall for all of your favourite snaps and artwork.  Try different photo finishes, such as sepia and black and white to vary the look.

I love how a polaroid-sized picture has been mounted with a large border- it really makes it stand out, giving the image a sense of importance.

These illustrations would look fantastic in my office- I may put some of my own up for inspiration.

For something a little different, there’s no rule to say pictures must hang on the wall.  Try resting the frames on shelving for a contemporary look.

Have you created something similar in your home?  Send-in some photographs and we’ll feature you on the blog!

Inspirational Interiors: Brilliant Blue

Azure, cobalt, royal, navy, turquoise… with so many gorgeous shades of blue to choose from, there really is a colour to suit all tastes.  I’ve selected a wide choice of styles below to inspire you- from nautical to fine dining to fun, fresh and flirty.  Blue is your friend!

I love the nautical look and I’m sure stripes will never go out of fashion.  Stylish yet relaxed- I can imagine this living room to look just as stunning in the winter months (imagine white fairy lights and a warm open fire).

Banish those ideas that blue is ‘cold’- as the image above indicates, blue can create an inviting, homely feel.  The rich shades and quality furnishings give this dining room an upper class ambiance.

If you think top-to-bottom blue on the walls might be a little too much, just contain the bright shade to one feature wall or half of the wall, as seen above.

Be daring and try new ideas- this turquoise paint is so pretty… you’ve just got to give it a go!  Try a tester pot first.

Never underestimate the power of a feature wall- it can transform any room from dull to delightful!  Keep the rest of the space fairly neutral to ensure the feature wall remains the main focal point.

Make certain aspects of the room stand out with the clever usage of colour.  Here, the sofa really ‘pops’ due to being surrounded by black and white home accessories.

Make shelving more interesting by lining random shelves with colour and pattern.

The dark grey background really makes the white frames ‘pop’ due to the contrast in colour.

This wall sticker would brighten-up any boudoir!  Adding 3D functionality (in this case, hooks) brings the artwork to life.

This industrial-style lamp compliments the bare brick wall perfectly.  I also love the huge clock, which doubles-up as wall art.

Feeling blue

I love how fresh and sophisticated blue decor can look.  Mix pale blue hues with greys, teal, white and rich mahogony for the ultimate in stylishness!  These images below are examples of blue at its best- don’t be afraid to add a little colour to your home.  Just add a pretty bunch of daffodils and you’ll be all set for Spring!

If adding colour feels a little bit daunting at first, try slowly introducing colourful home accessories such as scatter cushions, a throw or a lampshade.
