At home with: Bruno and Michèle Viard La Petite Bastide

May 28th, 2011

Okay so this week we aren’t technically invading someone’s home but the good news is that you can rent this delightful little place in France!  La Petite bastide is located in Lourmarin, Provence, with stunning views of the Luberon mountain.  It’s perfect in every way!

Owners Bruno and Michèle chose to only use pure, natural materials during the restoration of the house, which gives it a rustic, authentic feel.  The property is deceptively large with 5 bedrooms.

I love the use of raw materials; the stone flooring and staircase, the distressed finish on the furniture and the bare walls.  True French style…

How sweet are the candles in the wall alongside the staircase?!

Decor has been kept minimal to focus upon notions of space, calm and light.  It just goes to show that you don’t need to go overboard with decor in order to add character to your home.  Chose carefully and wisely.

I’ve no doubt you’ll all be aware by now of my love for vintage French-style furniture- it just oozes glamour, girliness and timeless Parisian chic.  So imagine how I felt when I stumbled upon this cute Doncaster-based online homeware boutique!!

Melody Maison specialises in ‘vintage chic furnishings and beautiful French style accessories‘- and at refreshingly affordable prices I might add!

I’m loving how the bird stencil on the display cabinet, below, makes the piece special and unique.  Something to try yourself at home if you’re feeling brave!

I imagine the chair, above, with a gorgeous vintage silk gown draped over it, with a dressing table displaying pretty vintage perfume bottles… sigh!

Our Shop of the Week this week is Lytton & Lily.  This delightful online boutique offers a range of vintage styled and traditionally-inspired home and lifestyle products, as well as offering well-known brands such as Kath Kidson, Neom and Dogeared.  If you favour traditional French style, you’ll love their products!

vintage French style milk bottles, from £9.25

The theme of the shop was originally inspired by owner Debra’s grandparents and named in their honour – Lytton & Lily. Lytton was a master builder and Lily was an avid homemaker.

Small French style armoire, £495

Debra and her husband, Duncan established Lytton & Lily Vintage Home & Garden with a small mail order business in 2004. Since then the mail order business has continued to develop and grow and they opened their first store in Barnstaple, North Devon in March 2005. The website was launched shortly after in October 2005.  I find it quite impressive that this small company had online presence so early on… this is what a lot of independents tend to score poorly on, which is a shame and definitely a missed opportunity.

I love these cute baskets, below…

Decorate the Jasmine Way!

These gorgeous home accessories pictured have been chosen from the wide selection on offer at Jasmine Way.  I came across this small, family-run online business on social networking site Twitter a few days ago- its such a great place to network and make new friends!

Loving these pretty, vintage-style trays, complete with side handles for the less-steady handed of us!!

This willow shopping trolley is soooo stylish and makes life just that little bit easier when trawling around the shops.  And the design is so up-to-date (not an elderly lady in sight!!).

A great way to store keys so you’re not searching every morning!

Jasmine Way sources its home accessories and decor from continental Europe, with the main focus being on French design.  Isn’t it lovely?

A special mention goes to Jude, the ‘company cat’, who has been assigned to the position of Chief Box Inspector, along with part-time model.  I wonder how he and Coco would get along?!
