Build up your colour

I loved the decor of the room below so much that I set about searching for where I could buy similar pieces to recreate the look.  This is a great example of how to begin with a ‘neutral background’ and then add colour with the introduction of home accessories.  Remember if you fancy a change in the future, it’s so much simpler to change a lamp or a rug rather than redecorate the whole room.

Fill-in the blanks

January 3rd, 2011

Taking down the Christmas decorations and can leave your home looking somewhat bare.  Although it’s a nice feeling to have your home ‘back to normal’ again, I can’t help but feel a little saddened at the lack of festive decor!  To avoid the January blues, I suggest filling those empty spaces with the perfect home accessory- pretty fresh flowers. Cost-effective, colourful and attractive, a delightful bunch of flowers will put a spring in your step!

Use your imagination when it comes to vases- for example coffee jars or jam jars are perfect for displaying delicate wild flowers.

If you’re feeling a little gloomy with the winter weather and plummeting temperatures, give your home a Springtime feel with the introduction of some colourful home accessories

As you can see from these examples, even the smallest of changes can make a huge difference.  Introduce some gentle pastel colours in the form of scatter cushions, bedspreads or drapes.  You can even make your own if you have the time and the skill!

Keep colour to a minimum and the surrounding area neutral to get the balance just right.  Focus points could be a colourful chair, a striking vase or a pastel rug.  Think Easter shades to get you in the mood for Spring.

Summer Loving

Summer is the time to dare to go bright- both inside and outside the home.  Drape colourful throws over furniture, dig out those summer cushions and have beautiful displays of flowers dotted around your home.  It’s sure to put you in the mood for summer, even if the British weather doesn’t!

I’m sure I could lay here for hours, listening to the gentle ripples of the water…

We’ve just placed fresh flowers in all of our rooms and it really makes a difference to the mood!  I love the bright colours… perfect for cheering you up on a rainy day.  Why not think of new ways to display your bunch, such as in a watering can (above), colourful tin bucket (below) or milk jug?

Beautiful, bright summer fabrics look fantastic draped over white furniture

Fruit Pizza?!

I’ve just spotted this great recipe idea over at the Make Life Delicious blog.  It’s a refreshing alternative to plain old fruit salad!  Sunshine has named her delightful dessert Fruit Pizza but thankfully the base is made from cookie dough!

The picture reminds me of a colourful mosaic pattern… it’s so pleasing on the eye that you might think it’s too good to eat.  Well, almost!
