Cool little creatures!

I just can’t get enough of Donna Wilson’s website- in particular her cute soft creatures!  After graduating from The Royal College of Art in 2003, Donna set-up her own business designing and making a collection of curious cushions, luxurious lambswool blankets and variety of home accessories.  Contemporary, cool, fresh and new- I love it all!  I can see why she won the 2010 British Design Awards.

Each little handmade creature has a story to tell…

Beryl: Likes sausages, eggs and chips. Has a fear of fluffy slippers.

Rufus: Likes his ears being stroked, and going to parties.  He dislikes smelly feet

Rill: very lively, never stops running around, likes caterpillars and worms.

Spotty Button is an online boutique packed full of interesting home accessories and gift ideas.  There’s lots of inspiration for that perfect gift for the person who has everything… don’t forget it’s only about 8 weeks until Christmas Day!  I always like to read a little about the founder of a company but I can’t seem to find any background information on the website.  Still, it’s definitely worth a look!

Below are a selection of my favourite items…

Regency cake stand, £27.95

Mother Of Pearl knob, £6.50

Vintage dressing table mirror, £41.75

Red Spotty Heart hot water bottle, £9.95

Add some artwork

I’m quite taken with the lovely wall art in this two storey flat.  The pictures really brighten the place up and it just shows you don’t need to spend a lot to make a big difference to the appearance of a room.

Think carefully about colour- are you looking to pick out and highlight accents of colour in the room?  Are you wanting to add a fresh, new burst of colour?  Which colours are likely to clash with your home accessories?  Also consider size- in this flat, the owner has gone with the bigger the better for maximum impact.  Fill that blank wall space!

This bookcase by Marcel Wanders for Moooi (above) looks like a piece of artwork, don’t you agree?  I like how the books face forward rather than sideways.  Practical?  Well, no but it looks good!  Why hide attractive book covers?!

Loving how this wall-mounted television has been camouflaged by surrounding it with matching picture frames….

Super Scandinavian style

Scandinavian design is quite hard to define, yet it has it’s own distinctive look.  It’s modern, innovative and colourful, whilst also being retro, traditional and folksy.

It’s definitely one of my favourite styles at the moment.  Why not add a burst of colour or a bold pattern to your home with some scatter cushions, a rug or a throw?

These are a few of my favourite Scandinavian home accessories on the market at the moment… so much to choose from!  Think snuggly, chunky knits, warm log cabins and outdoor hot tubs.  Heaven!

Little extras make all the difference

We all know that it’s the home accessories which make a house a home- personal to you.  Just the other day I was searching the ‘net for some new scented sachets for my drawers and came across the Heathcote & Ivory website.  This British company specialises in decorative bath, body and home fragrance products in beautifully co-ordinated ranges… all so pretty!

If you’re looking to add a bit of character to your home, Heathcote and Ivory is the place to look for vintage-style accessories.  Their website is full of gift ideas, too!
