Irrisistable Independent
Couverture and The Garbstore on Kensington Park Road makes shopping pleasurable. Their visual merchandising is spot on and very inspirational- a nice change from the boring repetitiveness usually seen on the high street.
“We do not carry any clothing that has been bought up and sold out. All of our suppliers are like us. Fighting hard the monsters of the corporation, standing up for quality…”

Owl cushion, £79
I had a job interview for The Garbstore once but the hours weren’t suitable. It was probably a good thing as I’d have spent all my wages on stock!!

Living in the present
We’re always looking to the past for inspiration but what about the here and now? Modern home accessories can be very striking, with their clean lines, bold colours and futuristic shapes.
I do love the uncluttered look but it’s just something I could never achieve unless I had oodles of storage space!

Block acylic lampshades, £40.85 each

Menu rubber vase, from £10.50

Define bread dipping tray, around £25

Block orbit aqua clock, £39
Umbra u-lock mirror, £11.23
I think this mirror is a great idea- my boyfriend is forever leaving his razors lying around!

Go dotty for Spotty
Spotty Button is an online boutique packed full of interesting home accessories and gift ideas. There’s lots of inspiration for that perfect gift for the person who has everything… don’t forget it’s only about 8 weeks until Christmas Day! I always like to read a little about the founder of a company but I can’t seem to find any background information on the website. Still, it’s definitely worth a look!
Below are a selection of my favourite items…
Regency cake stand, £27.95
Mother Of Pearl knob, £6.50
Vintage dressing table mirror, £41.75

Red Spotty Heart hot water bottle, £9.95

Going Au Naturel
Baileys Home and Garden, based on Whitecross Farm in Herefordshire, UK, is an eco-friendly supply chain offering home accessory items old and new. You’ll love the rescued and refurbished knick knacks for the home, garden and office! Baileys favours the natural look, focusing on the stripped-back, original properties and features of a material.

“The things we sell are a surprising mix of vintage and new from a variety of sources – but they all share the qualities integral to our repair, reuse, rethink philosophy”.

The lifestyle images on their website are really inspirational . The store (a restored barn) is pretty amazing too!

Owners Mark and sally Bailey have written two books which are a must read if you like to go au naturel!

Ugly Be Gone: Shop of the Week
Finding home accessories online is easy but finding an attractive online boutique which sells quality, unique homeware is not. You’ve to have a real passion for what you do to run a boutique and be willing to search high and low to offer the customer products you truely love and believe in.

I can’t quite put my finger on why I am attracted to this clock, below, as I tend to favour a more modern look. I can just picture this featuring on the set of an old movie or maybe an early episode of Coronation Street! It reminds me of the old storage tins my grandma used to keep in her kitchen cupboards. I find it interesting to looking at old product labels.
