Texan Heaven

My friend jetted off to Texas yesterday and I am so jealous!  They have family over there, so are going to visit.  If you’re not lucky enough to have relatives you can stay with, I’ve found this fabulous hotel!  I love the mix of old and new and the fun American retro vibe…

Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin, Texas

Owner Liz Lambert handpicked every detail of this14-room revamped Vicorian mansion, an inspired union of old-world decadence and rock ‘n’ roll cool.  It’s refreshing to hear of designers carefully selecting each piece, rather than handing it all over to the decision of some corporate design company (boring!).

Music and literature memorabilia of the ’60s and ’70s adds detail.  I love these pictures on the wall, above, but not too keen on the US flag being used as a curtain!

Condé Nast Traveller considered this to be one of the  most noteworthy hotels in the world in 2009.  Not bad!  Click here to book.

Home from home?

This fabulous hotel in Buenos Aires has won numerous awards to include the 2007 Wallpaper Design Award and has made it on to the Conde Nast Traveller Hotlist.  Looking at these images, it’s easy to see why!

The website for Home hotel is such fun- a refreshing change from the usual uniform pages we are used to seeing.

The hotel décor is a eclectic mix of old and new, mixing vintage French wallpaper, Danish furniture and wool rugs from Chili, with custom made furniture… with great results I’m sure you’ll agree!  I particularly like the loft rooms and garden suite (pictured).

Owners Patricia O´Shea and her husband Tom Rixton felt there was a lack of suitable accommodation in Palermo, hence the creation of Home.

“We realized there was a need for a hotel in this location and with all the things our friends wanted. So we decided to create Home, the hotel we and our friends would like to stay…” -Tom Rixton
