Mountain air…

Swedish website Skona Hem is a great source of interior design inspiration. If you haven’t heard of it before, make sure you check it out, you’ll love it! It’s always my first stop when I’m feeling stuck for ideas or can’t decide between styles for a project…

So anyway, whilst surfing around their site for some modern living room ideas, I was completely sidetracked and ended up in awe looking at these stunning images of what is some lucky person’s home (am so jealous…) in the ski resort Kvitfjell in southwestern Norway (thank you Google translate!).

Despite being newly built, the owners have kept to traditional design and natural materials in the cabin – uuh, since when is 200sqm considered a cabin – so it just oozes character, don’t you agree?

Do you think a home like this would look great anywhere or would it be out of place in a big city?

Uptown clients with downtown ideas

Wayne Nathan from Memphis and Carol Egan from Dublin are two talented New york interior designers who together make up NathanEgan.  The company was launched in 2000, inspiring ‘uptown clients with downtown ideas’ (according to W Magazine).

Their interior design style consists of a refined, eclectic mix of contemporary and classic furnishings.  I love the elegance and sophistication of the finished looks…

Simple but effective- this layout is ideal for the hallway or to fill a corner.

Not quite the sophisticated look but this dreamy wallpaper transports me to lands far away!

I’ve always had a soft spot for floor-to-ceiling wardrobes… just stunning!

Natural light creates the illusion of space.  This ceiling window is fabulous

Open plan rooms are so very modern and very now.  Of course, the sheer size of this home adds to the feeling of luxury and extravagance.  I’m not too sure if I would want an open kitchen though… what about the cooking smells seeping through the house?!

Less is definitely more in this room.  Keeping colours simple and neutral give a light and airy feel- a natual look similar to New England style.

I’ve just come across the Recreate studio, a fabulously quirky home interiors company based in Cape Town, South Africa.  Owner Katie Thompson collects and reuses pieces of diguarded junk to recreate a unique, recycled range of furniture, lighting and interior accessories, each piece infused with its own previous character but with a new function.  The results are fresh, innovative and inspiring.  And Katie ships worldwide!

Buyers’ Trip to Maison & Objet

We’re always excited when it comes to the trade shows; it’s great to be able to see and touch what is up-and-coming in the world of interiors!

Candles the French, France

Our favourite show is without doubt Maison & Objet in Paris.  The rows of products seem to be never ending, packed with interesting items for the home , mainly from Europe.

Of course it’s not all fun for our buyers, trade shows are very tiring and we need to remember not to just select the things we love personally, but what you guys will love too!
