Mixing-up old and new in the kitchen
Whilst this kitchen has the essential modern appliances and equipment, character is added with the use of retro and antique decor…

It’s a beautiful room- airy and light and with a gorgeous high ceiling. Whilst the decor may not be to everyones’s taste (those I asked weren’t overly keen, although I like it!), it’s a good example of how well old and new can work well together.

the silver injects a bit of modernism

I love how striking the red and yellow is against the white background

First it was copper, then it was toughened glass, now all the rage is for personalised perspex kitchen splashbacks like this tube map one below, found in Bella and Dax’s family house in Sydney.
It’s a really cool idea and a great talking point (10 out of 10 for thinking outside the box guys!), but everyone else, please think twice before embarking on a project like this. Something that may look cool one day, might just look dated a year later, or you might simply get bored/ sick of it and you don’t really want to be replacing your kitchen every other year (unless you can afford to of course…)!!

These two kitchens have got to be the most beautiful I have ever seen, styled to perfection whilst still being practical and functional. I love the large table in the first image, apart from it being pretty to look at, it also provides a daily meeting point for the whole family. In these busy modern times, it seems we have less and less time to spend with our loved ones, when really they are the people who matter most. Chatting at mealtimes is a good way of keeping the family close and talking about a bad day can help to relieve stress! We all have to eat at some point- why not together? If I had a kitchen like one of these, I’d be in there all the time!

I don’t know about you but I’m definitely a night owl and I welcome anything which may make getting up in the morning more pleasurable! If the lighter mornings and sunshine aren’t enough to get you going, take some inspiration from the images below. I’d be up with the lark if my kitchen looked as enticing as this!
