19th Century British architect and furniture designer, William Morris, once said “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”.  A statement we should all live by!

Inspirational Interiors: California dreaming…

What I love about this stunning home in sunny California is that it’s stylish whilst maintaining that ‘lived-in’ look.  No one really wants a ‘show home’, where you feel under pressure not to leave a plate unwashed or a magazine on show.  Homes need to be functional, right?!

The mix-match of chairs and the objects on display in the cupboards help to give this home the lived-in look without looking cluttered or messy.  Loving the island and the bright lampshade!

How beautiful are the home accessories in the picture above?!  Notice the cushions and settee cover are creased… no need for perfection!

Why not dedicate one wall for art only?

Feature walls are a fantastic way of adding colour to any room and this orange brings-out the purple in the rug and pillows perfectly

Dutch by Design

I felt instantly drawn to the Dutch by Design website’s homepage, with its colourful product offering and exciting contemporary homeware ideas.  It’s so refreshing to see something new and inspiring!  I’ve picked my favourites out, below…the car on the minute hand circling the clock is so cute!

Harechair in coral, £145

Founded in 2003, DutchByDesign.com specialises in supplying contemporary lighting and funky home accessories from Dutch designers.

TC Museum stool, £155 each

Bird in the Bush cups, from £25

What are your thoughts on modern, contemporary design?  Do you consider it too daring/crazy/wacky for the home?  I like to look at it but then I’m not sure if I could live amongst it all!

Racing Car Clock, £25

The best in urban design

We love retail furniture chain BoConcept when it comes to choosing city-chic decor for the home.  Based in Denmark, the company specializes in modern, urban design.  I particularly like their ideas for optimizing limited space, which is a common issue with city living.  If you’ve any space-saving ideas to share, do let us know!

“Customised storage solutions that will fit into or around the corners are the ultimate space savers. Large wall mirrors and glass for tabletops bounce light around the room and leave an impression of size and endlessness”.

The table pictured (above left) can be used to seat four people, or folded in half as shown when the extra seating is not required.  The fact that the tables pictured to the left are of different heights allows them to overlap and fill a corner, again saving valuable space.
