Bathe in Luxury
How fun is this bathroom, designed by half-Egyptian, half-British designer Karim Rashid?!! It’s light years away from my preferred girly vintage style but still, I absolutely love it!

The aethetically pleasing minimal rounded shapes will undoubtedly have the whole family queing to use the bathroom! My only bugbear is with the finish of the base of the sink and bath; I can’t help feeling that this spoils the flow of the shape and gives the room a bit of a cheap, plastic look. I would like to see the base just disappearing into the flooring as one piece. Then again perhaps I’m just picky!
Other colour combinations are available but I have a personal preference for the pink. Not sure the boyfriend would agree, though…

‘Wow, wow, wow!’ was my reaction when I saw this gorgeous front room in Metropolitain Home.
New York designer John Lyle made it his mission to transform his brother’s Mississippi traditional-looking home into a contemporary dream…

I love the duck-egg blue with the black and white. And who would have thought this brave mixture of pattern would work so well?! You can see the main colours used throughout are simply yellow and black, however the clever use of contrasting patterned fabrics means you could never call this pallett boring!

“The rooms flow into each other, so there had to be a common thread to link them,” Lyle explains. What a talented man!

This fantastic Hollywood guest house belongs to talented interior designer, Mary McDonald. Isn’t it truly gorgeous? This has to be one of my favourites. I’m really into my stripes at the moment; the wallpaper in the image below looks so sophisticated. I love Mary’s great attention to detail, for example where the pink colour of the stripe is reflected in the cushion pattern and again in the flowers, bringing everything together nicely.

She seems to have a good eye for colour and is an expert on introducing bright shades without the overall result being ‘OTT’ or brash. The strong, clean lines and large, bold shapes make this a very modern home.

Looking at her stylish portfolio, I’d be more than happy to let Mary loose in my home to work her magic!

I love the clean lines and interesting features of modern design. Twenty Twenty One sells furniture, lighting and accessories by inspirational 20th and 21st century designers and contemporary pieces from popular companies such as Moooi and Arper. Originally formed in 1993 in Camden, London, read about their interesting background here.
There’s a huge range of fantastic products to choose from, in fact you could actually kit your whole house out using just this one store. I can honestly say that there is nothing that I dislike. Below is my pick of the best, it was quite hard to choose!!…
Leaf Chair by Arper
Homedesk by Nelson
Aluminium cabinet, part of the Credence range, by DePadova
