I’m not sure if it’s the way the colours in the images compliment the soft-green wall, the fact I’ve never seen anything quite like it before, or that it has a cool art deco feel… whatever the reason, I just love this photo frame!

Aussie interior designer Diane Bergeron creates chic, timeless and classic spaces. Her gorgeous Melbourne home, which appeared in none other than Australian Vogue last year, has been decorated to perfection- I love its contemporary, unique feel. I’d be quite happy to move straight in!!

I have a thing for orange and grey at the moment, it looks stunning together!

There’s so much ‘going on’ in each room, yet it all seems to gel together well without all being too much. Look at the dining room (above) for example, with its stripey curtains, colourful wall montage and odd set of chairs. Who would have thought such a mixture could look so fab?!

Colourful Kitchen

This cute kitchen belongs to textile designer Chrissie Probert-Jones, co-founder of Stitch Designworks.

I love the idea of the whiteboard in the kitchen- not only would it be of use to jot down recipe ideas and shopping lists but also great to doodle on, too!

See how Chrissie has worked from a ‘blank canvas’ here, in that if stripped, the room would just be plain white. Add colour in the form of accessories and change them to suit your mood.

I’ve chosen a ‘textile designer of the week’ this week rather than a company, just because I couldn’t wait to show you these stunning prints!

Inspired by the beauty of nature, she takes a fresh approach to textiles with unique colour combinations and imagery. I’m loving the dreamy colours, the pureness of the designs and the modern, contemporary feel.

Modern architectural design

These pictures are renderings from a New York City penthouse apartment. The modern architectural design is very sleek and minimalistic, which sometimes I do find off-putting (even the slightest bit of clutter would look really messy!) The overall look can come across as being too clinical and impersonal. But just look at those stunning five-star views!

The lighting and decor in the lounge area (below) make the setting more homely and inviting

Danish Inspiration

Here’s a little something to cheer you up this Monday morning! The colourful images of this gorgeous Danish home are sure to brighten-up even the dullest of days.

This home is the perfect example of how to do colour the right way. If you’re planning to sell in the future, it’s a good idea to keep the ’shell’ as neutral as possible, so that potential buyers can mentally picture the home the way they would like to have it. It’s the accessories which ‘make’ the house here, adding colour and character. As I’ve said before, accessories can always be changed to suit your mood, however paint, wallpaper and furniture would be a bigger and more expensive project to embark on.

So fresh, clean and modern!

Open plan paradise!

I’m loving the freshness of the decor in this small flat in the Czech Republic. I’ve never thought about it before, but grouping different coloured picture frames together (see below) really makes an impact. So it’s not just about the artwork- the frame is important, too.

The overall look is very modern but when you look closely, some of the furniture could date back to the seventies. In the wrong setting such pieces can look tired and dated but here they are given a new life.

I’m not sure if I could have my workspace situated in such close proximity to the lounge area. I love open plan don’t get me wrong, but I think I’d find it hard to concentrate on my work! I’d like to see it sectioned off somehow, perhaps just with a low bookcase slotted between the desk and sofa, just to set that boundary.

Notice how the cushion on the chair reflects the red cushion on the computer chair. Small accents of colour subconciously bring a room together and make the overall look work perfectly.

I, butterfly

I’m loving Japanese label Minä Perhonen for its quirkiness and kookiness. The design process, from sketching through to manufacture and textile design, results in a fabulously unique modern collection. Below are some of my favourites!

‘Minä’ means ‘I’ and ‘perhonen’, ‘butterfly’, with a wish to make many beautiful designs like those of butterflies’ wings…

Bathe in Luxury

How fun is this bathroom, designed by half-Egyptian, half-British designer Karim Rashid?!! It’s light years away from my preferred girly vintage style but still, I absolutely love it!

The aethetically pleasing minimal rounded shapes will undoubtedly have the whole family queing to use the bathroom! My only bugbear is with the finish of the base of the sink and bath; I can’t help feeling that this spoils the flow of the shape and gives the room a bit of a cheap, plastic look. I would like to see the base just disappearing into the flooring as one piece. Then again perhaps I’m just picky!

Other colour combinations are available but I have a personal preference for the pink. Not sure the boyfriend would agree, though…

Boldly go…

‘Wow, wow, wow!’ was my reaction when I saw this gorgeous front room in Metropolitain Home.

New York designer John Lyle made it his mission to transform his brother’s Mississippi traditional-looking home into a contemporary dream…

I love the duck-egg blue with the black and white. And who would have thought this brave mixture of pattern would work so well?! You can see the main colours used throughout are simply yellow and black, however the clever use of contrasting patterned fabrics means you could never call this pallett boring!

“The rooms flow into each other, so there had to be a common thread to link them,” Lyle explains. What a talented man!
