Mountain air…

Swedish website Skona Hem is a great source of interior design inspiration. If you haven’t heard of it before, make sure you check it out, you’ll love it! It’s always my first stop when I’m feeling stuck for ideas or can’t decide between styles for a project…

So anyway, whilst surfing around their site for some modern living room ideas, I was completely sidetracked and ended up in awe looking at these stunning images of what is some lucky person’s home (am so jealous…) in the ski resort Kvitfjell in southwestern Norway (thank you Google translate!).

Despite being newly built, the owners have kept to traditional design and natural materials in the cabin – uuh, since when is 200sqm considered a cabin – so it just oozes character, don’t you agree?

Do you think a home like this would look great anywhere or would it be out of place in a big city?

Breathtaking Aurora

Can you imagine living in a place where you have nightless nights and dayless days??!!! It must be so hard to get used to the contrast between winter and summer… Apart from that though, I am a huge fan of Scandinavian countries, I love the people, the scenery, the food and think it’s a real shame this region is not on most peoples’ top travel destinations.

If you’re thinking of taking a long weekend this winter, I would definitely recommend one of the Nordic countries – the capital cities are all beautiful (I especially fell in love with Stockholm), but for a one-in-a-lifetime experience, make sure you don’t miss the Northern Lights, pictured below.

Officially called Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights are an astonishing sight, like colours dancing in the sky! They are caused by the Earth’s magnetic field and interactions with the solar wind and together with the snow-covered mountains and blue night sky create a breathtaking view.

They say that the best view of the Northern Lights is from Northern Norway but I think they are also clearly visible from Sweden and Iceland. Check out Discover the World and Nature Travels for more information.
