Inspirational Interiors: sewing rooms

Friday’s post sparked some interest amongst our readers so I thought it would be a nice idea to have a closer look at some sewing room decor inspiration.  Traditionally it’s an area full of chaos and mess- how on earth some people keep their sewing rooms so tidy I have no idea!  Perhaps it’s all down to having the right storage space, with everything organised and to hand.

This bookshelf is perfect for crafty people- the sturdy deep shelving means you can store larger, heavier books and the custom-made partitions allow you to design the layout to your personal needs.  The shelving needn’t just be for books as the image shows.  The drawers at the bottom would be great to store fabric.

The best part of having a dedicated sewing room is that you can make it all your own and don’t need to tidy things away at the end of the day.  Use one wall purely as an inspiration board to get those creative juices flowing!

If you’re in your sewing room often, it’s important to make the room bright, comfortable and accessible for your own well being.  No one works well in a poorly-lit, dull, uninspiring office.  Sewers need lots of natural light.

Always be on the lookout for small storage containers for your bits and bobs- you can find things in the most unexpected of places!  The container may not have been initially designed to store buttons and threads but it may do the job perfectly.

Time to get organised…

It’s only about 50 days until Christmas everyone!  It’s time to get organised… and by that I don’t just mean in terms of presents, invitations and Christmas card lists.  It’s time to start preparing your home for guests!  The next few weeks are guaranteed to fly by and in the close run-up to Christmas you’re going to be busy with other things.  So let’s start decluttering now.

I’ve been looking for simple storage solutions which are quick-fixes.  If you have a few ‘bits-and-bobs’ lying around, the quickest solution would be to pack them away in storage boxes, even if it’s just for over the festive period.  Most homeware stores sell them- or if you have time why not cover some yourself?

Forget messy piles of paper here, there and everywhere- this storage idea seen on Apartment Therapy will keep your wrapping paper in one place!

Window seating is a great feature- especially in bay windows.  Lift the top and use as storage too!  A great place to keep bulky items such as bedding.
