Floor art?

June 25th, 2010

Imagine this room, below, with plain wooden flooring.  It would seem a little dull, wouldn’t it?  I love the idea of brightening-up a room with a colourful, painted floor.  It adds a personal, homely touch that is unique to the house.  Of course, the process will require a lot of time and patience but the result would be well worth the effort.  We stencil our walls… why not the floor?!

Front door – to colour or not to colour?

We had to replace our front door a couple of years ago, as our house was broken into and the door totally smashed (a whole other story…) and would you believe it, we still haven’t got round to painting it! So when I saw these lovely colour suggestions in Country Homes & Interiors, I thought that’s it, the front door has to go to the top of our to-do-list when we’re back from our honeymoon… But for the time being, I thought I’d play around a bit with some colours in photoshop. Which one do you prefer?

or even a combination of two colours?

dual coloured doors

They all look gorgeous in my opinion, but I’m not sure they’d suit a London flat, they’re more cottage style/ Greek island colours no? Although now that I think about it, there’s tons of houses with coloured doors in and around Notting Hill…

Friday Quiz: which paint corresponds to which colour?

I’m just about to repaint my house so have spent quite a few hours on the Dulux website this morning and quite frankly I’m totally confused… they have more than a thousand colours!!! Each card has 6 colours, times 7 cards in each colour group, times 8 colour groups, times 4 mood groups, equals a grand total of 1344!!! That is a lot of colour…

I wonder if they have a whole team who research and choose the names because some of them are really inspiring and I really do think they influence people’s choices… Like Mystic Mauve, or Grecian Spa, or Sicilian Summer!

So my idea for today’s quiz is to guess which name corresponds to each of Dulux’s colours. It’s not as easy as it seems!
