Fit for a princess

I came across this girly bedroom on the architechome.com blog whilst searching the ‘net for something else and just had to share it with you.  The images are just packed full of inspiration!

The white base colour helps to break-up the fuschia pink and as a result it’s not too overpowering.  How perfect is the colour match for the rug and feature wall?!  The patterned pouffe and cushion add further interest and detail.  Surrounding furniture and wall decor has been kept white, which I think gives a classy look and feel.

Only include a vintage wardrobe without doors if you are going to keep the interior uncluttered, simple and tidy… otherwise this is a no-no!  Fluffy caribou trims add an element of fun and I just love the sweet deer.  How cute!

Fuschia pink and fluffy trims can work just as well for us adults!  The backdrop of the room has been deliberately kept white, with added bursts of colour using carefully selected home accessories.  Personally I’m not overly keen on the purple glitter or the multicoloured scatter cushions but overall I think the room works.  What do you think… too many shades of pink; too sickly sweet; too childish or just fabulous?

Future Perfect

I challenge you not to find at least one aspect of  this house that you love!

Founder of Williamsburg design and furniture shops the Future Perfect and A&G Merch, David Alhadeff, lives in a renovated Brooklyn warehouse where his love of eclectic design is reflected throughout the rooms.

Most peoples’ pet hate is pipes showing on the wall- we always want to disguise them in some way.  But here they compliment the feel of the converted warehouse,  retaining that industrial feel.  Very cool!

Bare stone walls- are they cosy enough for the bedroom?

Wow!  David’s eclectic style really shines through in the kitchen.  Is it too much?  I quite like it actually!  The silvers and greys bring the room right up-to-date.

There’s just the perfect balance of decor on the wall here; any more and the result would have looked too cluttered.  Add different textures and shapes to add interest.

Perfectly Pink

Happy New Year everyone!  I can’t believe the snow has lasted so long here (at least two weeks now). It was lovely to have a white Chritmas… but oh what chaos it has caused everywhere!

I’m always of a mixed mood come January.  On one hand the start of a New Year feels fresh and liberating but on the other, all I can think about are dark, chilly mornings and sticking to my boring New Year’s resolution- a diet!!  I’d love to hear your New Year’s resolution… perhaps it’s a little less cliche than mine?!

Anyway, here’s a bit of colour to cheer us all up! This stunning four-story town house overlooking the Potomac River in Virginia belongs to US politicians Mary Matalin and James Carville.

As you can see, orange, red and pink dominate the colour palette throughout the home.  You’d think that these colours wouldn’t work together but it just goes to show that almost anything is possible in terms of interior design.  The lounge ceiling is covered in a pattern of small reflective gold-leaf squares.  So warm and inviting… and the different shades and patterns work perfectly together.  And how pretty is the chaise longue?

Bathe in Luxury

How fun is this bathroom, designed by half-Egyptian, half-British designer Karim Rashid?!!  It’s light years away from my preferred girly vintage style but still, I absolutely love it!

The aethetically pleasing minimal rounded shapes will undoubtedly have the whole family queing to use the bathroom!  My only bugbear is with the finish of the base of the sink and bath; I can’t help feeling that this spoils the flow of the shape and gives the room a bit of a cheap, plastic look.  I would like to see the base just disappearing into the flooring as one piece.  Then again perhaps I’m just picky!

Other colour combinations are available but I have a personal preference for the pink.  Not sure the boyfriend would agree, though…
