Funky Retro

Shopping should be a pleasurable experience, right?  After all, we are parting with our hard-earned cash and we need to feel inspired.  I  stumbled upon the Caravan website recently and I love its crafty, ‘handmade’ look.  A perfect nominee for our Shop of the Week!  I imagine their shop in Shoreditch, London, to be just as enticing…

If your style is more retro than ‘right now’, you’ll love the home accessories on offer.  From goose lamps to bug magnets to pineapple wall sconces, it’s a website sure to brighten-up your day!

Rainbow Brights

This is possibly the most colourful home I’ve ever seen!  The style is retro meets pop art, or “my bedroom at age 8 meets the Home Depot paint centre,” says Amy of her one bedroom Massachusetts home.  The bright colours really work well together, which is no coincidence- Amy had worked hard to ensure the colours compliment each other and that every home accessory and piece of furniture has its own special place.

Amy has been collecting Pez packets for years and has a rather impressive collection.  Strange… but nice to look at!  I like how the packets have been placed in order of tone… the shadows make a pretty pattern, too.

This iron outdoor table is such a lovely colour, especially combined with the orange and yellow accessories.

I do like the interior decor as a whole, however I think I would’ve appreciated it more during my carefree University years rather than now, when I like to think of myself as being a little more sophisticated!

Super Scandinavian style

Scandinavian design is quite hard to define, yet it has it’s own distinctive look.  It’s modern, innovative and colourful, whilst also being retro, traditional and folksy.

It’s definitely one of my favourite styles at the moment.  Why not add a burst of colour or a bold pattern to your home with some scatter cushions, a rug or a throw?

These are a few of my favourite Scandinavian home accessories on the market at the moment… so much to choose from!  Think snuggly, chunky knits, warm log cabins and outdoor hot tubs.  Heaven!

Pip pip hurray!

Pip Studio is a quirky little Dutch company which I have fallen in love with!  The home accessories are so colourful and pretty that you can’t help but love the whole range.  Quite shabby chic too, don’t you think?

The person behind Pip is Dutch product designer Catharina, who has had the nickname Pip since childhood.  What a talented lady!

Pip’s designs are inspired by ”every-day incidents that seem quite ordinary but when scrutinised more closely are, in fact, exceptionally beautiful”.

Mixing-up old and new in the kitchen

Whilst this kitchen has the essential modern appliances and equipment, character is added with the use of retro and antique decor…

It’s a beautiful room- airy and light and with a gorgeous high ceiling.  Whilst the decor may not be to everyones’s taste (those I asked weren’t overly keen, although I like it!), it’s a good example of how well old and new can work well together.

the silver injects a bit of modernism

I love how striking the red and yellow is against the white background

Choose a few quality antique pieces to add interest
