Boutique of the Week: The Blue Label

A number of businesses are born out of frustration- that feeling when you really need something yet it just doesn’t seem to be available anywhere.  It takes a lot of guts, perseverance, late nights and determination to launch your own business and owner of The Blue Label, Deborah has done a great job!  We love her vintage-style home accessories and shabby chic interiors.  If your a fan of laid back French Country/New England style, The Blue Label is perfect for you.

Deborah explains, ” The Blue Label was born out of my own frustration whilst decorating my sky blue kitchen. I looked everywhere for the right shade of blue oilcloth and cushions but all I found was duck egg. So, reasoning that I wasn’t the only person experiencing this problem I decided to launch The Blue Label “.

Country Chic

There’s something about old English country decor which fascinates me- I think it’s the nostalgia, the ‘make-do-and-mend approach to everything and the all round cosiness.

Nowadays we are privileged enough to be able to mix the old with the new.  Visit auctions and antiques fairs for one off vintage pieces and mix with shabby-chic style furniture.  Tatty, worse-for-wear finds can be reupholstered to fit-in with surrounding decor.   Recreate the look whilst maintaining cosy, modern home.

Cream of the crop

I was flicking through this month’s issue of Ideal Home earlier.  Have you noticed that all these glossy home magazines tend to feature home accessories from the same-old select few stores all the time?  Of course there’s nothing wrong at all with big corporate companies such as John Lewis, Laura Ashley or Dwell etc (I love Dwell’s new autumn ranges) but I want to read about something new and I personally think it’s the small independent boutiques that not many people know about that need to be featured (hint hint…)!

These would make ideal Christmas gifts!

If you scan the magazine pages thoroughly, you’ll occasionally come across a little gem of a company, such as small independent homeware boutique, Country Cream.  This inspirational home accessories company is the queen of all things country-style.  Ideal if you love the shabby chic/faded/distressed look.

These jugs, above, look lovely when used as vases to display freshy-cut wild flowers.

Be sure to read about the interesting background of Country Cream and how many of the items are handcrafted locally.

We all know that it’s the home accessories which make a house a home- personal to you.  Just the other day I was searching the ‘net for some new scented sachets for my drawers and came across the Heathcote & Ivory website.  This British company specialises in decorative bath, body and home fragrance products in beautifully co-ordinated ranges… all so pretty!

If you’re looking to add a bit of character to your home, Heathcote and Ivory is the place to look for vintage-style accessories.  Their website is full of gift ideas, too!

Shabby Chic that’s anything but shabby…

There’s certainly nothing shabby about these shabby chic interiors, created by talented stylist Atlanta Bartlett!  Although the look is minimalist, each piece in the room holds a history, adding interest and intrigue.

I love the bedroom, above… but is it too minimalist?  Would you like to see more colour; a colouful rug, perhaps?  It’s one thing loving it but in reality I’m not so sure I’d like it day in, day out.  Perhaps in a warmer climate, as I’d imagine it to feel a little cold in winter, with the high ceilings and bare floorboards.  The room is beautiful though- the ultimate in shabby chic.

An eclectic mix of quality furnishings and home accessories give this kitchen the thumbs-up.  Original floorboards are a necessity for this look.

Fabulous storage idea beneath the bed and the crisp white sheets suggest the dreamy scent of fresh linen

Pick pieces you love and will cherish.  The image above is proof that mixing styles of furniture can work perfectly with a little careful planning.
