At home with: designer Kate Spade
Kate Spade‘s New York apartment is just like her handbags- tasteful, stylish and rather enviable. Full of special vintage finds and the odd interesting piece of artwork dotted around, this home has a very personal feel to it.

The use of rich, warm colour makes Kate’s apartment appear warm and inviting. I love the eclectic mix of furniture and the mix of modern, contemporary artwork with vintage pieces. Who said the two don’t go together? Look at that amazing large rug!

It can be a challenge to decorate oddly-shaped rooms. This space is almost like an art gallery- a peaceful area where you can sit and study the beautiful artwork. Wooden floors give added grandeur.

A strong brick red such as this can be quite daunting to use. Use sparingly and remember that dark colours can ‘shrink’ a room. Keep ceilings white to add height.

Love the navy blue and gold together.

Shabby Chic at its best
Shop of the week this week is going to The Orchard based in Leicester, for its fabulous selection of vintage home accessories and shabby chic furniture.

vintage glass door knobs, £6.75 each
The idea of mixing shabby chic furniture with carefully selected vintage finds really appeals to me- not only because the look can be so girly and pretty but also because I like to imagine the history behind the vintage pieces. It’s like pretending to be a different person in another era!
